Thief: Deadly Shadows is a 2004 stealth game developed by Ion Storm Austin (the last ever game produced by that studio) rather than Looking Glass Studios, the original developer of the first two Thief games, (albeit with many of the same people, including the same voice actor, Stephen Russell for the lead character, Garrett), and is a relative departure from the first two games in the series. The game is powered by the Unreal Engine used in Deus Ex: Invisible War engine and unlike the original two titles, Deadly Shadows was developed simultaneously for Microsoft Windows and the Xbox.

One of the game's major new features is the ability to explore the City. While previous games (Thief: The Dark Project and Thief II: The Metal Age) sent Garrett straight from mission to mission, Thief: Deadly Shadows allows him to walk the city streets between missions where he can steal from passersby, spy on the townspeople, and complete the occasional side quest in addition to major story missions. Unlike games such as Grand Theft Auto III, the city is not one large continuous map, but rather several small neighbourhood maps connected by load zones (similar to Postal²). The game will supposedly be followed by a possible future title Thief IV, which is rumored to be in production at Eidos-Montréal.

After establishing his free will by refusing to kill Kain when prophesied, Raziel discovers that Moebius the Timestreamer had originally manipulated Kain into igniting a genocidal war against Vampires until he was the last of his kind. In manipulating Raziel who has free will and thus whose decisions and actions cannot be foreseen by Moebius, Kain hopes to find a way to undo the consequences of his actions and restore Nosgoth to its former glory.

Sekumpulan ahli-ahli fisika Australia dan Inggris baru-baru ini menyimpulkan bahwa cacing laut yang bernama Aphrodite aculeata ini dapat dijadikan model yang ideal untuk kabel fiberoptik dan photofilter masa mendatang.
Dengan struktur yang khusus, duri-duri cacing ini akan memanfaatkan cahaya yang diterima dengan efisiensi hampir 100 persen, jauh lebih efisien daripada fiberoptik yang ada saat ini.

Hewan laut berduri ini menggunakannya untuk dapat beradaptasi dengan habitatnya yang berada di kedalaman sampai sejauh 2.000 meter. When Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was released last year, it was a very pleasant surprise. The game was an action adventure offering in the truest sense of the term, featuring beautifully detailed levels, environmental puzzles, and, of course, the acrobatic Prince of Persia himself. It was an amazingly faithful modernization of a beloved classic. With the newest iteration in the series, Warrior Within, developer Ubisoft Montreal appears to have addressed the biggest complaints about its forebear, which specifically involved its repetitive combat and short length. Yet while Warrior Within's new combat and satisfyingly long campaign improve on last year's game, the now darker tone falls somewhat flat compared to the storybook atmosphere in The Sands of Time. In addition, technical issues on the Xbox and PS2 platforms also mar the experience a bit. However, make no mistake: Warrior Within is a still a very worthy sequel.

Warrior Within continues the prince's story from last year's game, so, because the prince has unleashed the mystical Sands of Time, he finds himself pursued relentlessly by a menacing time monster called the Dahaka. The Dahaka is a beast that devours everything in its path like a walking black hole, so to escape it for good, the prince decides he must travel to the past to kill the Empress of Time to prevent the creation of the sands entirely. Sound like a conundrum? Well, if you can accept Back to the Future, you shouldn't have any trouble suspending your disbelief for the plot in Warrior Within...although the game is probably meant to be taken more seriously than the Michael J. Fox film. The prince's journey takes him to a ruined fortress on the Island of Time, where you'll find yourself fighting inside the castle, in mysterious caves, and in the outdoor gardens, where some of the game's most attractive level architecture can be found.

Warrior Within borrows a page from the Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past in that you'll be exploring in the same areas in two different time periods. Special rooms scattered throughout the fortress let you to shift back and forth between the past and the present, and areas of the castle will change accordingly depending on the time period. So, for example, the clockwork tower that had delicate machinery and giant working gears in the past looks run-down and broken in the present day, with tree branches poking through walls and ruined pieces of machinery scattered on the floor. Of course, the path you take to navigate each room also changes depending on the time period you're in.

The new time travel mechanic serves to lengthen the game, but it also adds an element of backtracking that wasn't present in The Sands of Time. This isn't to say that Warrior Within involves as much open-ended wandering as, for example, a Metroid game. For the most part, the game still plays in a very linear way, but in some of the later levels (which feel like they were a bit rushed), it isn't always made clear which direction you should be going in. An in-game map always shows your current location, as well as the time period you should be in, but the lack of detail in the map makes it impossible for you to know exactly how you need to get to your next stop. This can sometimes lead to a bit of frustration as you fumble about, but, for the most part, it isn't a problem...so long as you're paying attention to the clues the game gives you. The good news is that even discounting the time lost from deaths and wandering aimlessly, Warrior Within is a much longer game than The Sands of Time. In fact, it should take the average player around 15 to 20 hours to complete. While the middle of the game feels like it drags a bit, an interesting twist toward the end has a drastic effect on gameplay. This same twist also freshens things up for the home stretch, which ultimately delivers you to the final, rather difficult, boss fight.

Like last year's game, the prince has the ability to rewind time for a few seconds to correct mistakes. This is a clever game conceit that lets you make up a missed jump or a combat blunder without wasting time to reload the game. There are also other time-related abilities, such as speed, which come in handy for both combat and getting through traps. There are additional spell-like abilities that can knock back and damage multiple enemies that surround the prince. All these are limited by sand slots, which can be recharged by defeating enemies in combat or by breaking open jars and other items strewn about various rooms.

The biggest new addition to the game is a deeper combat mechanic. The prince is now capable of dozens of different weapon combos, and these are context sensitive depending on whether you are holding a single weapon or dual-wielding two weapons. With a single weapon in hand, you can grab enemies and throw them. You can even strangle them. Dual-wielding takes away your throw options, but it lets you perform much more powerful weapon combos. What's interesting is that the effect of your moves changes depending on what type of weapon you have in your left hand, which is the prince's less-dominant hand. With a mace in your right hand, you can knock opponents to the ground, while a sword in your left hand lets you to chop enemies in half with certain combos. The weapon in your left hand also degrades with use, so you'll always need to pick up new ones that are dropped by fallen foes. Otherwise, you can choose to throw your secondary weapon at enemies in attempts to impale or behead them. You can, of course, still vault off of enemies and walls for more-powerful slashing attacks, and a new pole-swinging attack has been added. There's also plenty of blood and gore in Warrior Within to further spice things up. As a result, beheadings and halved bodies are par for the course once you get used to the better fighting moves.

With all these new moves available, you can imagine that there's a lot more combat in Warrior Within than in The Sands of Time. It's also quite a bit more difficult in spots. Enemies will come at you several more at a time, so you'll need to become proficient with your moves to survive. Eventually, though, you'll find that you can get through the game more efficiently when you quickly end battles by throwing opponents off of high ledges rather than laboriously finishing them off with your weapons. There are a few boss fights in the game, but, unfortunately, quite a bit of recycling has been employed, so these confrontations aren't as memorable as they could have been. What's more, most of the high-level weapon combos are all but useless against bosses, because these combos tend to get blocked. You'll end up relying mostly on dodging and the simplest of combos to steadily winnow health away from bosses

Despite the revamped combat, the strength of Warrior Within, as in the last game, lies in its environmental puzzles. As the prince, you'll need to rely on your vast array of acrobatic moves to navigate your way through many cleverly designed rooms and traps. You can still jump, wall run, climb, mantle, swing, and vault your way from ledge to ledge and from branch to branch. You can also now make swashbuckler-style controlled falls by sinking your sword into wall tapestries and then sliding straight down as you slice through them to slow your descents. Completing the game's fiendish puzzles and navigating your way through each room tends to be extremely fun and satisfying, and it's made all the more enjoyable by the well-animated moves of the prince and the beautifully designed levels. For the most part, the rooms you go through look quite natural and do not appear as big Rube Goldberg apparatuses. This natural-looking level architecture contributes greatly toward successfully immersing you in the game's world.

The developer has even found a way to add yet more intensity to the trap-and-hazard-laden rooms of Warrior Within. Several times throughout the game, you'll meet up with the mystical Dahaka. Each of these meetings kicks off an intense chase where you must navigate several sets of hazards quickly and without hesitation, lest the Dahaka catch you. The Dahaka sequences offer a nice change of pace, but our only complaint is that the camera angles used during these scenes seem to have been picked for cinematic effect rather than efficacy of control. Consequently, repeating a chase scene a few extra times due to less-than-ideal camera angles can be frustrating.

The biggest disappointment with Warrior Within, though, actually has nothing to do with its technical gameplay. With the new emphasis on combat, which has been spiced up with added blood and gore (and an M rating), the game has taken on a much darker tone. The new prince in Warrior Within is no longer the dignified, self-deprecating nobleman he was in The Sands of Time. Instead, he comes off as an arrogant brute who yells out conceited taunts during combat, such as "You should be honored to die by my sword!" and "Why do you even bother?" While the new attitude could be explained away by his desperation, it all serves to make the prince a much-less-likable character. Add in the soundtrack, which has some bass-heavy, heavy metal influences, and the wistful fairy tale style of The Sands of Time has given way to a game that feels like it's trying a little too hard to be edgy.

Some technical flaws in the game also mar the experience somewhat. In certain cutscenes, for example, the audio lags behind the lip synching and subtitles. This is a minor disappointment, because the sound effects in the game, aside from some ham-handed voice acting from the prince, are excellent and impactful. On the graphics front, the prerendered cutscenes stutter noticeably from time to time. There aren't too many of these types of movies, though, so they don't detract too much from what is a very beautiful-looking game overall.

As far as the interface goes, the developer has done a good job of making the game playable with a mouse and keyboard. So with a bit of practice, you'll be able to successfully pull off all the prince's acrobatic moves and combat combos. However, the game is still best played with a proper controller, if only for the added precision of an analog stick.

Prince of Persia: Warrior Within is an excellent sequel to a game that caught many by surprise last year. Those who enjoy navigating through beautifully designed levels, complete with clever puzzles and traps, will definitely get their fill of them here. Moreover, the combat has improved greatly, although it's still not the principle strength of the game. However, those who primarily enjoyed last year's The Sands of Time for its original charm and subtle character development may not find quite what they're looking for in this sequel. But even with this caveat, Prince of Persia: Warrior Within is easy to recommend for any action adventure fan, and its lengthier campaign should keep players busy for a lot longer this time around.

Pernahkah anda mengalami kejadian file dan directory hilang pada sebuah drive. Misalnya anda menempatkan seluruh data anda yang jumlah filenya sangat besar kedalam drive letter J.

Pada saat hari ketika anda membutuhkan, file dan directory pada sebuah drive lenyap entah kemana. Padahal anda masih mengingat baru kemarin sore atau baru beberapa saat lalu file dan directory itu masih ada.

Atau kejadian lain seperti file program seperti file exe, ketika di click disebutkan telah rusak.

Proses selanjutnya Windows XP secara otomatis memeriksa komponen pada drive anda, dan mengembalikan file dan directory yang hilang untuk dikembalikan seperti semula

Cara ini dapat mengembalikan file dan directory yang hilang secara mendadak dari dalam sebuah drive. Tetapi beberapa bagian seperti nama diretory bisa saja digantikan sendiri oleh sistem Windows XP dengan sistem nomor khusus. Dan anda perlu memberikan nama kembali pada file atau directory.

Intel X38 vs Intel P35 Chipset

Today we are comparing Intel’s newest member of the 3-series chipset family, codenamed “Bearlake” X38, to the P35 chipset which has been out and about for some time now. Before beginning to review individual X38 motherboards, we have taken the time to compare these two Intel chipsets.

The Intel P35 Express chipset was slated for release in June (2007) though we were lucky enough to have it go on sale here in Australia during May for reasons unknown. This allowed us to bring you some of the first P35 based motherboard reviews to hit the net. Performance wise we found that the new P35 motherboards produced similar performance to that of the existing P965 boards. Although this was a little disappointing as we had hoped that the P35 would make the Core 2 Duo processors even more lethal, the chipset was still a very welcomed edition to the Intel line-up.

This is because the P35 offered more PCI Express lanes, official 1333MHz FSB support for upcoming Intel processors, DDR3 memory support and featured the ICH9 south bridge. That said, the extra PCI Express lanes really only played a small part and for the most part made no difference. The official 1333MHz FSB was nice, but many manufacturers such as ASUS for example, added this support to their older P965 motherboards anyway. Then there was the DDR3 memory support which was pretty much pointless then and still is now.

While Core 2 Duo processors not only fail to utilize half the bandwidth provided by this new high speed memory, DDR3 is so expensive when compared to DDR2 that it is simply not a viable option. Even the south bridge chips were very much alike, as the ICH9 only offered a few more features when compared to the ICH8. For example both supported six SATAII ports, the ICH9 took the USB 2.0 support from ten ports to twelve, while both featured the Intel Matrix RAID technology and Intel HD Audio. Both also featured the Intel Fast Memory Access technology while the Intel Flex Memory Technology was featured exclusively on the new P35 chipset.

Therefore when we first reviewed Intel P35 motherboards from makers such as ASUS and Gigabyte, we were impressed with what they had done with their boards, but at the same time found no need to upgrade from existing P965 motherboards. Today there is still no real incentive for those with P965 motherboards to upgrade to a P35 solution. That said, those looking at building a new system or those upgrading from something pre-P965, should certainly look at getting a P35 based motherboard. However, with the recent arrival of the Intel X38 Express chipset it appears that many are holding off on upgrading, and today we endeavour to find out why...

Windows XP SP3 crash setelah di update

Masalah pada power management Windows XP SP3 .

BIla anda berencana mengupdate Windows XP dengan Service pack 3. Ada kemungkinan Windows XP anda akan crash setelah di patch dengan SP3.

Masalahnya sistem boot terjadi kesalahan dan berhenti dengan menampilkan error 0x000007e. Tetapi computer bisa berjalan normal ketika di start dengan safe mode.

Sementara masalah muncul di sejumlah computer buatan HP yang kebanyakan mengunakan procesor AMD. Sebenarnya baik AMD dan Intel memiliki potensi yang sama terjadinya crash.

Beberapa kasus juga terjadi bagi video driver, dan laporan lain secara random.

Intel mengunakan file driver intelppm.sys dan AMD mengunakan amdk8.sys dengan fungsi yang sama untuk pengaturan power management.

Untuk menanggulangi crash tersebut untuk procesor Intel, cukup mengikuti langkah seperti dibawah ini dengan setting safe mode

1. Run regedit

2. Click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
3. From the File menu, select "Load hive"
4. Arahkan ke bagian %systemdriver%\Windows\System32\Config dan dan cari file bagian System
5. Cari bagian "horked"
6. Arahkan ke bagian horked\ControlSet001\Services\IntelPPM
7. Click dua kali di Start value dan set ke angka 4
8. "If you did what I did and completely destroyed things by running a disk check", navigate to ControlSet001\Control\SessionManager. Buka bagian BootExecute value dan hapus autochk entries
9. Ikuti langkah 6 sampai 8 untuk kontrol setting lainnya.
10. Reboot

Masalah lain masalah crash Windows XP SP3

Masalah terjadi bila BIOS computer kurang compatibel dengan ACPI complaint. Ada baiknya mengupdate BIOS. Error muncul dengan pesan STOP:0x000000A5.

Hal ini memang tidak pasti terjadi, khususnya penguna custom PC dengan board Asus A8N32-SLI sudah memberikan laporan masalah tersebut. Beberapa board dengan procesor berbeda bisa saja tidak terjadi masalah yang sama.

Bila anda mengunakan beberapa harddisk, coba di lepas satu persatu untuk mengetahui harddisk yang bermasalah
Jalankan CHKDSK /r untuk pemeriksaan harddisk, diharapakan computer dapat melakukan reboot dengan baik. Tetapi bila masih terjadi pesan 0x00000024 dan terjadi juga pada safe mode. Ada baiknya mengunakan langkah dengan software pembantu seperti Recovery Console atau WinPE.
Lalu ganti file ntfs.sys driver untuk mengantikan file yang telah corrupt pada tempat yang sama dari backup copy in the %windir%\system32\dllcache . Bila pengantian file yang rusak masih memiliki masalah yang sama, ganti file dari folder %windir%\system32\drivers dari folder dllcache.

Laporan masalah Windows sangat banyak, terkait dengan software lain.

Sofware RAMdiskXP adalah perangkat untuk membuat virtual drive pada sistem OS NT2000 dan WinXP. Contoh saja pada kemampuan WinXP dapat mengunakan seluruh memory pada sebuah PC. BIla pemakai memiliki PC dengan kemampuan memory yang sangat besar, bisa saja mengunakan software ini untuk membuat sebuah virtual drive untuk meningkatkan kemampuan proses pada aplikasi.Kemampuan. Pemakai WinXP, bila memiliki PC dengan memory sangat besar , katakanlah 1GB atau 2GB. Maka pada sistem OS ini, cukup melakukan loading file satu kali, selanjutnya file akan berada didalam memory PC sampai kondisi penuh atau digantikan oleh file lain. Sebagai gambaran, bila pemakai mengunakan PC dengan memory besar dan menjalankan 10 file MP3 yang diloading sebesar 40MB,

setelah masa durasi lagu kembali ke posisi semula maka dengan sebuah PC yang memiliki kapasitas memory besar tidak akan lagi melakukan loading pada harddisk karena file masih tersimpan didalam memory dan harddisk tidak melakukan pembacaan file tersebut.

RAMDiskXP sebenarnya mirip dengan sistem OS WinXP dimana file dapat disimpan sementara waktu pada memory. Hanya untuk WinXP tidak dapat melakukan penyimpanan secara permanen selama computer bekerja. Sedangkan RAMDiskXP benar benar membuat sebuah drive letter atau virtual logical drive tersendiri yang sifatnya permanen selama PC dalam kondisi bekerja.

Hasilnya drive tersebut memang mengunakan memory, hanya sifatnya tetap dan tidak dapat diganggu selama computer dalam kondisi hidup. Sedangkan pada sistem management memory dari sistem operasi tidak tetap dan sewaktu waktu dapat digantikan oleh file terbaru bila pemakai mengunakan load file untuk sebuah pekerjaan.

Dibawah ini adalah capture setting pertama yang ditampilkan oleh Cenatek RAMDiskXP. Pilihan format file, loading dan save image bila pemakai menginginkan menyimpan file pada virtual drive, setting memory untuk alokasi secara pool atau permanent untuk software.

Sedangkan pada gambar bawah adalah setting pada ujicoba dengan mengunakan 1GB memory dan dicoba untuk mengalokasikan 120MB yang disisakan untuk virtual drive dari software RAMDiskXP.

Fungsi lain pada software, juga dapat menyimpan data pada virtual drive ke bentuk file dan di loading kembali ketika Windows melakukan start. Jadi image dapat dikembalikan ke drive di memory untuk digunakan kembali. Fungsi lain, software juga dapat menyimpan dengan durasi atau waktu tertentu untuk melakukan backup.

Dibawah ini adalah contoh drive letter baru dengan initial N yang menambah drive baru bila pada software diaktifkan untuk mengalokasikan sebagian file untuk virtual logic drive pada memory PC.

Setidaknya pemakai mengetahui apakah kebutuhan yang diinginkan serta berapa besar memory harus dialokasi untuk software RAMDiskXP. Jangan mengunakan Virtual drive terlalu besar untuk logical baru pada memory karena akan menganggu pemakaian aplikasi yang juga membutuhkan memory besar. Hindari pemakaian software ini bila mengunakan aplikasi kritikal pada data sebelum aplikasi anda malah tidak dapat terbuka karena kekurangan memory.

Game Unreal Tournament 3 (Beta Performance)

Everyone enjoys a good surprise and this is exactly what I got late Friday night, actually it was really very early Saturday morning. As I sat at my computer sucking down my last red eye I stopped by one of my favourite download sites just to see if there was anything new I could start to download before passing out at 3:00am in the morning. Right away the words “Unreal Tournament 3 Beta Demo” caught my attention and I actually had to read it twice before clicking the link...

There it was, the hugely anticipated UT3; well a beta demo of the game anyway. Here I was still trying to get over the excitement of the Call of Duty 4 playable demo which was just released a few days prior. I have to admit, although being a huge fan of the Unreal series and very excited about the prospect of a UT3 demo, I had little to no idea if there was even going to be a demo and if so when it would be due for release.

While I suspected there would be a demo, the release date for the full version of the game has been bounced around that much at news sites I gave up trying to track down the official release date. Initially news sites were claiming that the release date would be the 3rd of September and then the 28th of September and now that those dates have passed, late November seemed to be the next target.

Nevertheless today we do have some performance results for you that have been recorded using the recently released beta demo. Now we must stress that this is a “beta” demo and not necessarily an official demo, so the visuals and performance may not accurately reflect that of the full release. That said, we would imagine that this beta demo is pretty close given the game is only a matter of weeks from release or a month at the most we believe. Apparently this beta demo was being shown off at a press event that was held by Epic Games at its headquarters in North Carolina. It is believed that a member of the press leaked the demo to a number of download sites, whether this is true or not is really irrelevant at this point.

The good news is we have now tested the demo and it is available on all major sites for download so you too can also grab a copy today. There is no secret to which game engine Unreal Tournament 3 uses as it is yet another visually stunning first person shooter to be built around the “Unreal Engine 3” just as Bioshock and Medal of Honour: Airborne were! The Unreal Engine 3 has already proven to be very impressive in terms of visual quality and it has also proven to be an extremely demanding game engine. Games such as Bioshock and Medal of Honour: Airborne were not mainstream hardware friendly and that being the case we hardly expect Unreal Tournament 3 to be any different.

For resolutions above 1280x1024 gamers have been required to use one of four graphics cards, three of which are Nvidia built. The GeForce 8800 GTS/GTX/Ultra and Radeon HD 2900XT are the only graphics cards that have really proven to have what it takes to play these new games built on the Unreal Engine 3 with maximum in game quality settings enabled. Furthermore, because these games do not feature official anti-aliasing support, the Radeon HD 2900XT has fared very well against the GeForce 8800 competition. It shall be interesting to see once again where the Radeon HD 2900XT stands in terms of performance in this latest game built around the Unreal Engine 3!

Today we look at a rather unique graphics card based on the popular budget GPU from Nvidia and we are of course talking about the GeForce 9600 GT. Not so long ago we reviewed the Gigabyte 9600 GT Turbo Force graphics card, a product that greatly impressed us. Well now we have a new version that is a little different, as it features a 1GB memory capacity...

Now that the GeForce 9800 GTX and Radeon HD 4850 graphics cards can be had for roughtly $200 US, products such as the GeForce 9600 GT have become even cheaper. Less than six months ago we found ourselves testing the first 9600 GT graphics card. At the time products based on this GPU had an MSRP of between $169 - $189 US, making them incredibly good value. However today it is now possible to purchase a GeForce 9600 GT for just $120 US, while most still only cost $140 US.

Performance wise the GeForce 9600 GT is not a great deal slower than the 9800 GTX, and the $90 - $100 US price difference is easily justified. However there are still a few 9600 GT graphics cards that are priced at the original MSRP which was announced back in February, and we have an example here today. Gigabyte believes that their 1GB GeForce 9600 GT graphics card, codenamed NX96T1GHP, which features their unique multi-core cooling technology along with some factory overclocking is worth $190 US today.

Already we have reviewed the 512MB version of this graphics card, which currently retails for roughly $155 US, while this new 1GB version costs substantially more at $190 US. Other than the additional onboard memory, the 512MB and 1GB versions of this passively cooled graphics card are identical in terms of features and design. This is not such a bad thing, as the original version turned out to be the best GeForce 9600 GT graphics card we tested, offering excellent performance and features.

Admittedly we are very skeptical regarding the performance of this 1GB version, given what we have seen in the past when loading graphics cards with such a large memory capacity. Not so long ago we reviewed an ASUS 1GB 8800 GT graphics card which was actually slower than the 512MB variants at resolutions as great as 1920x1200. Therefore it will be very interesting to see if the 9600 GT can benefit from the additional memory, or if it’s just a bit of a scam…

Corsair TWIN3X2048-1600C7DHXIN adalah memory premium DDR3 atau setara PC3-12800. Corsair TWIN3X2048-1600C7DHXIN memiliki satu fitur untuk XMP. XMP atau Extreme memory performance sebenarnya hanya dikhususnya untuk mainboard dengan chip-set Intel saja.

Salah satu fitur memory adalah menyandang kemampuan XMP, mirip seperti fitur EPP DDR2 untuk nForce chipset atau SPD pada memory standar JEDEC. Penguna memory XMP nantinya akan memudahkan melakukan setting memory secara otomatis. Selain mengaktifkan setting auto dari XMP. Intel juga memberikan kecepatan maksimum computer yang mengunakan memory XMP, karena setting XMP akan mengunci kecepatan FSB procesor dan memory pada kecepatan 400Mhz. Misalnya pengunaan mainboard Intel chip-set X48 dengan DDR3, di ijinkan untuk mengaktifkan setting XMP dari BIOS. Sementara memory standar hanya diijinkan mengunakan kecepatan 1333Mhz (PC3-12800) atau DDR3-667MHz.

Untuk sebuah computer dengan chip-set X48 misalnya, sudah dapat mengunakan memory XMP. Untuk mengaktifkna cukup melakukan setup pada BIOS dengan XMP enable. Ketika XMP di enable atau diaktifkan, maka memory pada board X48 dengan DDR3 yang memiliki kemampuan XMP akan langsung dipacu sampai 800Mhz atau bekerja pada kecepatan 1600Mhz. Setting XMP akan memberikan nilai langsung berapa latency yang diijinkan oleh memory ke setup BIOS. Dan kecepatan langsung akan terkunci menjadi 800Mhz.

Voltage default DDR3 umumnya mengunakan voltage 1.5V. Untuk Corsair TWIN3X2048-1600C7DHXIN diperlukan power tambahan dengan minimal voltage 1.7V. Atau bisa juga diberikan lebih bila ingin memacu dengan overclocking.

Kecepatan default memory terlihat pada capture dari CPUz. Untuk kecepatan 800Mhz, memory diijinkan dipacu pada latency 7-7-7-20. Tetapi angka tersebut hanyalah spesifikasi standar, pada kenyataannya Corsair TWIN3X2048-1600C7DHXIN dapat dipacu lebih baik dari spesifikasi yang diberikan.

Corsair TWIN3X2048-1600C7DHXIN sudah menempatkan heatsink khusus rangkap 4 yang dinamai teknologi HDX. Heatsink dengan 4 lapis tersebut berfungsi agar pendinginan maksimal sehingg chip memory lebih stabil bekerja. Fungsi heatsink nantinya akan mencegah chip memory bekerja pada suhu extreme, serta menghindari terjadinya overheating ketika dipacu diatas kecepatan standar

Setelah mencoba Corsair TWIN3X2048-1600C7DHXIN , ada beberapa nilai yang didapat untuk pemakaian dan kemampuan memory ini.

Pertama, Corsair TWIN3X2048-1600C7DHXIN memiliki fitur XMP.

Sangat baik digunakan pada board yang memiliki fitur XMP. Kecepatan DDR3 yang ada sebenarnya hanya diijinkan bekerja pada kecepatan 667Mhz. Uniknya Intel juga memberikan pilihan pada memory dengan fitur XMP. Ketika pilihan XMP diambil maka kecepatan memory akan otomatis naik menjadi 800Mhz. Latency memory mengikuti setting memory dan bukan diset secara manual. Pemakaian XMP sebagai tweak memory dengan kinerja procesor standar. Tujuannya adalah mendapatkan kinerja memory bekerja diatas kemampuan rata rata memory tanpa melakukan setting yang rumit pada BIOS computer.

Kelemahan pada sistem XMP. Karena setup diambil alih oleh BIOS dan memory, maka pilihan XMP tidak dapat dimodifikasi oleh penguna computer. Kelemahan lain, seperti ingin memainkan latency agar bekerja lebih responsif atau memacu kecepatan memory dengan setup XMP belum tentu dijinkan pada setting BIOS computer

Kedua bermain pada kecepatan 1333Mhz dengan memainkan latency memory rendah

Kemampuan Corsair TWIN3X2048-1600C7DHXIN untuk memainkan latency memory lebih rendah bisa dilakukan untuk meningkatkan kinerja computer. Corsair TWIN3X2048-1600C7DHXIN ternyata mampu bekerja pada latency 6-6-6-18 dengan setting manual. Artinya kecepatan memory baru tampil bila penguna Corsair TWIN3X2048-1600C7DHXIN memacunya bersama dengan procesor yang di overclock. Untuk setting ini cukup baik digunakan bila penguna computer lebih memprioritaskan kinerja computer dengan overclock pada aplikasi.

Sedangkan kecepatan pada setting XMP akan meningkat menjadi 8126MB/s, dimana kecepatan procesor sebenarnya telah bekerja pada kecepatan 400Mhz tetapi speed procesor akan terkunci pada kecepatan 3.Ghz.

Untuk menghasilkan kinerja memory pada speed tertinggi akan didapat bila procesor dipacu pada FSB 400Mhz. Dan hasil test diatas 3Ghz untuk mengijinkan kecepatan memory bekerja dengan FSB procesor 400Mhz atau DDR 800Mhz akan menghasilkan speed diatas kecepatan XMP.

NVIDIA GeForce 7300GT vs. ATI Radeon X1600 Pro Review

In pursuit of the best sub $100 gamers videocard.

In the past I have been rather impressed with ATI’s low-to-mid range offerings, but their current generation products have failed to impress me. While I find their current high-end products such as the Radeon X1900XTX very inspiring, it is the X1300 and X1600 series that I have been most disappointed with.

For example, the Radeon X1600XT used to cost a little over $200 when first released, and now only ~6 months later, the same card can be had for as little as $135. Personally, I feel the X1600XT should have made its debut closer to its current retail value rather than $200.

It is our opinion however that even at $135 the Radeon X1600XT fails to deliver as for just $90 the X1600 Pro can be had. Making a brief comparison between both models we noticed both feature 12 pixel pipelines, 1 texture mapping unit and 5 vertex processing units, with the only difference between them being the core and memory clock frequencies. The Radeon X1600 Pro memory comes clocked at just 500MHz for the GPU and 780MHz DDR. With the average Radeon X1600 Pro graphics card being sold for about $90, it’s a tempting offer for budget users, and a perfect sub $100 offering to include in our comparison.

However, there is another product that will also tempt the budget user and this one comes from the green team. The GeForce 7300GT is NVIDIA’s latest weapon in war for the most powerful low-cost graphics card alternative. The GeForce 7300GT costs just $85 making a perfect match against the Radeon X1600 Pro.

On paper the Radeon appears to have the edge since the 7300GT features just 8 pixel pipelines, 1 texture mapping unit and 4 vertex processing units. The GeForce 7300GT also only features a core clock frequency of 350MHz and 667MHz for the DDR memory. The end result is a theoretical 2GB/s memory bandwidth disadvantage for the GeForce.

However, this may not necessarily pose a problem for the 7300GT, as we will also set our focus on overclocking performance. The cards tested today will be pushed to the limits using the standard stock coolers. There will also be a Radeon X1300 Pro thrown into the comparison, which will under-go some extensive overclocking as well.

The Radeon X1300 Pro has a clear clock speed advantage over the GeForce 7300GT. Nevertheless, at the default frequencies the results could go either way, depending greatly on the gaming platform used for testing. That said, most retail cards do not reflect the true performance of the GPU as they are usually either below or above the default specification. The 7300GT gained an additional 35% core frequency boost due to overclocking. The Radeon X1600 Pro core on the other hand was only boosted by 15%, as this is was all the headroom available.

It is often hard for the consumer to work out which product will actually offer the best value, and that's precisely what we will try to answer taking NVIDIA's GeForce 7300GT and putting it against the Radeon X1600 Pro and X1300 Pro. Those are all sub $100 cards that represent the best offerings at that price point from the two major graphics providers.

ASUS P5N-E SLI motherboard

ASUS is responsible for making some of the industry's best motherboards, though many of them can also be the most expensive money can buy. Lucky for us, that is not the case with the P5N-E SLI we are testing today, at least not the expensive part.

When purchasing an ASUS motherboard, consumers are not just paying for a brand name. ASUS' build quality is excellent and more often than not, the overall package and bundled features are also very valuable. Recently however we were let down by an overrated and overpriced ASUS product that did nothing else but sell a brand name. That product is no other than ASUS' flagship Striker Extreme. This member of the “Republic of Gamers” costs a crazy $400, making it nearly untouchable to the real gaming and enthusiast crowd.

Although ASUS is happy to take your money for this overpriced board, they also seem to be aware of the importance to deliver a good value, high performance product for the rest of us. They came up with the P5N-E SLI which has been designed around the ultra-affordable Nvidia nForce 650i SLI chipset.

Out of all the new nForce 6-series chipsets, this is easily the smartest option for those that are seeking SLI support on the Core 2 Duo platform without all the extravagant options. Performance-wise the 650i SLI is every bit as good as the 680i SLI, so why does the P5N-E SLI cost just $140 when the competing ASUS 680i SLI board costs $270?

When it comes to features there is quite a lot missing from the 650i SLI, though none seem to have a real impact on performance. Motherboards equipped with the nForce 650i SLI miss out on 1333MHz FSB support (at least for now), EPP memory support, 28 PCI Express bus lanes, two SATA ports, two USB ports and one Gigabit LAN port. I would say most users can turn a blind eye to the missing ports, and at least some will ignore the lack of official 1333MHz FSB and EPP memory support, but the 28 missing PCI Express bus lanes sound kind of serious.

his is a small problem for the ASUS P5N-E SLI as it means there is only one PCIe 1x slot available, with other 1x lane being dedicated to the on-board Gigabit LAN controller. Furthermore, the SLI graphics cards are forced to share 16 PCIe lanes, so when SLI is enabled the bus is divided effectively creating dual PCIe 8x slots. Now, the old AGP 8x bus peaked at 2.1GB/s and proved to deliver more than enough bandwidth for the latest graphics cards at the time. Then we have PCI Express 8x which can transfer up to 2GB/s in any given direction simultaneously (allowing for a potential bandwidth of 4GB/s).

In such case the question becomes if PCI Express 8x can offer enough bandwidth for PCIe 16x graphics cards perform at their peak? The short answer is simply, yes it does! Having full 16x SLI support has no real performance benefits over an 8x SLI setup, so again this is something gamers are surely not going to miss.

Just to prove this point we have strapped SLI GeForce 8800 GTX graphics cards to the P5N-E SLI and compared it to the Striker Extreme and P5N32-E SLI (another more expensive 680i offering by ASUS) with the same hardware configuration. The results are very interesting, though before we move on let's just check out some more P5N-E SLI features.

The P5N-E SLI board design is well laid out as one would expect, though we do have one concern. The southbridge has been left exposed without any form of cooling and although this did not prove to be an issue, even while overclocking, it may scare away some enthusiasts. We do appreciate the fan-less board design and the very large north bridge heatsink though, allowing to collect plenty of air-flow circulating around the case. Also the PCI Express slots were spaced far enough to keep dual 8800 GTX boards happy.

Driving the single on-board Gigabit LAN is the Marvell 88E1116 controller. Aside from the four internal SATA300 ports located on the motherboard there is also a single eSATA port for portable hard drives. The board’s 6-channel audio support comes from a Realtek ALC883 CODEC using audio sensing and enumeration technology. There are also two Firewire (IEEE1394a) ports, one of which is located on the I/O panel. Besides these the P5N-E SLI includes a long list of ASUS brand features such as Q-Connector, O.C. Profile, Q-Fan2 and many others. Now it is time to let the P5N-E SLI loose against the Striker Extreme and P5N32-E SLI.

AMD - Phenom X4 9850 Black Edition

AMD's first stab at a quad-core processor was a bit of a turkey, as Phenom was plagued by a TLB (Translation Lookaside Buffer) error that required a temporary fix before the processor could be launched. Although none of us were clear about the function of the TLB, we rapidly learnt that the hot fix for the problem cleaved 20 percent off the performance of Phenom.

This was a particular problem as the first Phenoms ran at clock speeds of 2.2GHz and 2.3GHz, which were too slow to compete with Intel Core 2 Quad, and the TLB fix cut performance even further.

Phenom X4 is a revision of the original Phenom which fixes the TLB error and also raises the clock speed. The X4 part of the model name is significant and AMD has launched a Phenom X3 range, which is unusual as it is the world's first tri-core processor (as far as we know; if you know better please drop us a line).

Phenom X4 is further distinguished from the original Phenom by the addition of a '50' suffix to the model code, so a Phenom 9500 is an original B2 quad-core 2.2GHz processor while a Phenom X4 9550 is a revised B3 2.2GHz CPU with a fixed TLB.

In addition you can get a 2.4GHz Phenom X4 9750, the 2.5GHz Phenom X4 9850 Black Edition that we're reviewing here and the top-of-the-range 2.6GHz Phenom X4 9950 Black Edition.

The specifications of these processors are quite telling, as both Phenom X4 9550 and 9750 have a TDP of 95W which is in line with earlier models of Athlon 64. But the Phenom X4 9850 has a TDP of 125W and the X4 9950 has a TDP of 140W.

There's another difference as the X4 9750 has a HyperTransport speed of 1.8GHz while the X4 9850 operates at 2GHz. These figures strongly suggest that AMD has pushed the architecture of this 65nm processor to its limits as the TDP is rising rapidly while the clock speed is only making modest advances.

Phenom uses the same Socket AM2+ form factor as the last Athlon 64 processors which used DDR2 memory and now that the bugs have been sorted it is a decent processor. The problem is that the latest 45nm Penryn Core 2 processors perform better clock-for-clock and the Intel processors also overclock significantly better than the new Phenom. We've read reports of Phenoms that overclock to 3GHz but were only able to get our 2.5GHz Phenom X4 9850 to run at 2.69GHz, which is an increase of less than ten percent.

This also puts AMD in something of a quandary. If you want a fast AMD processor the dual core Athlon 64 X2 is still a decent chip. On the other hand if you're using an AMD 780G chipset in a Media Centre PC you won't want a powerful quad-core Phenom. The upshot is that Phenom falls between two stools as it has an apparent inability to overclock significantly yet it isn't especially cheap compared to Intel Core 2 Duo and Quad.

Asus - M3N-HT Deluxe Mempipe

One of the latest boards form Asus is the M3N-HT Deluxe, based around Nvidia's new nForce 780a SLI chipset which offers 3-Way SLI support for AMD processors, as well as bringing Nvidia's new HybridSLI technology to the table.

Nvidia's HybridSLI consists of two technologies - HybridPower and GeForce Boost - both of which are only available under Windows Vista. The power-saving HybridPower works by turning off the dedicated graphics card when you're not playing games and dynamically switching in the onboard GeForce 8 series graphics. GeForce Boost, meanwhile, allows the graphics core of a dedicated card and the core of the integrated graphics to be used in SLI mode.

So far, so good, but at present both technologies are limited to a couple of cards each. GeForce boost only works with GeForce 8400GS and 8500GT entry-level cards, while HybridPower is restricted to the high-end GeForce 9800GTX and 9800 GX2.

Asus's M3N-HT Deluxe/Mempipe supports both AM2 and AM2+ AMD processors. To get the best out of the board you really need to use a Phenom processor, as this allows you to get the full benefit of the HyperTransport 3.0 interface which is theoretically 10,400MBps (but current Phenoms work at the lower end of the HT 3.0 specifications, at 7,200MBps).

Four DIMM slots support 1066/800/667/533MHz DDR2 memory up to a total memory capacity of 8GB, although 1066MHz support is only supported by AM2+ CPUs.

Passive heatsinks are used throughout; both bridges and the MOSFETS, although Asus bundles a small fan in the box should your overclocking efforts start to cook the Northbridge. Also a pair of passive coolers are provided for two memory modules and these will even fit standard sized modules with their own heatsinks, although you might run into problems with the massive heatsink-equipped modules like Corsair's DHX series.

Three x16 PCI-E 2.0 slots are provided which allow 3-way SLI setups to be used, but they only work at full x16 speed in the standard dual card SLI setup. When three cards are used, one slot runs at full speed while the other two run at x8 speed.

For expansion purposes there are two PCI slots along with a single x1 PCI-E slot, which is about all you need as the board comes with integrated Gigabit Ethernet and eight-channel audio (ADI AS1988B chip) which also feeds the S/PDIF out port on the rear I/O panel. In any case, there just isn't enough room on the board for any more slots.

Six SATA 3GBps ports are edge-mounted at ninety degrees, making for tidy cable runs, and there is support for RAID 0, 1, 0+1, 5 and JBOD (Just a Bunch Of Disks) RAID arrays. A Marvell 6111 controller looks after the e-SATA port on the rear panel.

A really useful feature is what Asus calls Express Gate, a Linux utility with a five-second boot-up time allowing you to surf the 'net, use Skype and access webmail without booting into Windows
